Right now you're probably asking yourself, what is this place? Well, it's a long story, but...
The Legacy of Tuck: Once upon a time, a red headed aspiring young executive with a national food-service chain got tired of seeing Jeff get all the promotions. Like so many before, he decided he could go the system one better on his own. Weighing his attributes and skills, he decided to go on his own anyway. Backed by a loyal family, the choices were simple - either open a Chinese Laundry in a Culvert, or an English Restaurant in a Quonset hut. Since growing a beard was cheaper than lessons in Mandarin Chinese, the English Restaurant was in. Equipped with his expertise in food-service, ol' Tuck decided the thing most lacking in other restaurants was personality, service and fun. (This, after all, was cheaper than offering just good food.) With the boldness of his Arizona heritage, the Fearless Friar embarked on this now legendary venture in January of 1978. In spite of numerous setbacks, handicaps and problems, he still hasn't made any money (just a lot of customers very happy.) Determined to stick it out, Tuck added the All Night Toaster Repair Division to help supplement his income. We'd like to say that the story ends here on a happy note, but the toaster division just isn't popping like it should, and frankly, the food end of the business is just demanding too much of the Tuck's time. So, if it's toaster repair at 3 a.m. you're looking for, we're sorry; it'll just have to wait. However, if you're looking for a good meal, fun and reasonable prices, Friar Tuck's is what it's all about.
The Third Generation Legacy Continues... Dan's Dad (Bob, Aka Tuck) had been in the restaurant business most of his life. Dan had worked with him and been fired by him thirteen times. Well, Tuck got out of the restaurant business and sold cars for three years. He thought he was pretty good, but his boss, Howard, didn't and Tuck got fired. Realizing finally how bad Dan must have felt all those times (13), Tuck apologized. Dan said, "Dad, you've really matured. I'm opening a restaurant and you can work for me. Of course, I can't afford to pay you!!!" So they opened up "Vivian's Vineyards" in Historic French town, St. Charles, MO. Vivian was Tuck's mom (Dan's grandmother) and she always supported their efforts as well as giving up her recipe for Beer Cheese Soup. Dan still hasn’t paid his dad (nor fired him), both of which may occur while you're dining tonight.
Here We Go Again... Well, Dan decided he didn't want to do this restaurant thing anymore. It seems he kept hearing a voice saying "Go East, Young Man. Go East." So he did. Meanwhile Tuck had bought the property with his lovely wife Karyn (new character). Rather than see the property set vacant, they opened the current restaurant you're in now. They had hoped to retire by now, but NO WAY! It's work, work, work! But it still beats selling cars for Howard.
One 2qt Saucepan - $9.99 Thus began a career in the culinary arts… Jim’s first encounter with the restaurant business was as a dishwasher. Over the next several years, he worked his way up the restaurant “chain” ladder, even having access to the Colonel’s secret recipe! Six years ago, Tuck hired this aspiring executive chef. This began a working and personal relationship where Jim learned the operational part of the restaurant business. That has led to Tuck and Karyn’s retirement and new ownership for the establishment. But never fear! Tuck and Karyn are always only a phone call away.
